YOGA THERAPY

"Your life is a scared journey.  It is about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformation, continuously expanding your vision of what is possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly and deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous challenges at every step along the way.  You are on the path... exactly where you are meant to be right now... And from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph, of healing, of courage, of beauty, of wisdom, of power, of dignity, and of love." - Carolina Adams

Q: What is Yoga Therapy?

A: “Yoga Therapy may be defined as the application of yogic principles to a particular person with the objective of achieving their particular spiritual, psychological, or physiological goal” (Richard Miller, Ph.D). A yoga therapist will assist an individual who wishes to address specific health problems by adapting different aspects of yoga accordingly. Yoga therapy helps to promote all-round positive health, and can even be designed for particular medical conditions.

Q: How does a yoga therapy session work?

A: During the first session the client is observed and assessed through basic yoga postures followed with muscle testing.  A custom yoga experience is then created to help stretch or strengthen; relax or engage one's body.  A client leaves with personalized instructions that include designed series of poses or yoga applications that can change each week or month according to one's progress and needs.

Q: What is the difference between Yoga Therapy and Physical Therapy?

A: While not the only answer, but a large one to consider. Yoga therapy is very much about the whole person.  While it is complementary to physical therapy, a yoga therapist will take into account that back pain may be related and not limited to an emotional element and exacerbated by lifestyle patterns or habitual movements that do not serve that individual well.
